Chinese New Year 2027
Year of the Fire Goat
The year of the Fire Goat (year 4725) begins on Saturday 6 February 2027. It follows the year of the Fire Horse, and ends on Tuesday 25 January 2028, when the Earth Monkey takes over.
The Lunar New Year or Chinese New Year 农历新年 (Nongli Xinnian), also called the Spring Festival 春节 (Chunjie), is the most important festival for Chinese communities around the world. Nongli Xinnian means literally “New Year of the agricultural calendar”: it is dated on the Chinese lunisolar calendar, not on 1 January. Families take the holiday to reunite. The celebrations run for fifteen days, from the new moon to the first full moon of the year, which is the Lantern Festival.
To say “HAPPY NEW YEAR” in Chinese: 新年快乐 (Xinnian Kuaile) or 新年好 (Xinnian Hao).

The Goat Sign : Goats are dreamers--creative spirits always in need of more time to explore their inner selves. They are most comfortable while being deep within themselves. To be happy, the Goat’s mind must be free to roam where it pleases. Goats are naturally artistic and inventive. They are not pursuers of material wealth and rely on their imaginations to enrich their lives. However, Goats can be very generous to those they love.
Goats often do not fare well in romantic liaisons. They are very high strung and tend to feel insecure. They are worriers. To quell their uncertainties, Goats need to feel loved and admired at all times. Goats are extremely sensitive and will fret over the most trifling things. Conflict within a relationship will make Goats retreat further into their minds or physically remove themselves from the scene.
When love is going well for them, Goats can be quite demanding of their partner. The happy Goat does not just take, but loves to give to its lover too.
Goats who learn to control their worries can be quite happy. Once they know their friends and family will be waiting for them when they return from their inner journeys, Goats can be very happy.

The festival is not one night. It runs fifteen days, from the new moon that opens the year to the first full moon, the Lantern Festival. Families reunite. Houses are cleaned and dressed in red. Children receive money in red envelopes. Temples fill. Lion and dragon dances go out. The same gestures return every year, in an order that is easy to miss if one only counts fireworks.
In mainland China the public holiday is shorter than the festival: a week, the so-called Golden Week, moved by making up workdays so that the time off covers the reunion. Schoolchildren have about a month. The journeys that take people home have a name, Chunyun: for the 2026 season, spread over forty days, some 9.5 billion trips were expected on the Chinese transport network — the largest annual human movement in the world.
The date is lunar, so it slides in the Gregorian calendar, always between 21 January and 20 February. Each year is named for an animal of the twelve, and for one of the five elements; the pair returns only every sixty years. Someone born in January may still belong to the previous animal, until this new moon has been reached.
