There is a small problem with this jacket. This button has come off, it was there when I brought it in.

Language points

Three words that make a complaint acceptable

有个小问题 announces a difficulty while calling it small, before even saying what it is. 好像 puts the observation in the conditional: 好像没洗干净, it looks as though it has not come out, rather than "you did not clean it". 麻烦您 acknowledges that the repair will cost an effort. None of the three is needed for the meaning; without them, the same sentence is an accusation.

洗干净 and 下不来

干净 attached to the verb says the result is clean: 洗干净, to wash and for it to be clean; the usual negative is 没洗干净. 下来 says a thing comes away from what it is on: 下不来, the stain will not come out. The same family gives 擦下来 and 拿下来, which lesson 20 used for emptying a car boot.

辛苦了: acknowledging the trouble

辛苦了 does not thank someone for a service done to you; it observes that they have taken trouble. You say it to a removal man on his way out, to a colleague who has finished late, to a driver at the end of the journey. After a complaint it is worth more than 谢谢, because it admits that the extra work comes from you.
