Chen Hao is thinking of leaving sales for training. An older colleague puts the hard questions to him.

Wǒ zuìjìn yīzhí zài xiǎng, yào bùyào huàn yī gè hángyè.
I have been wondering lately whether to change trade.
The colleague
怎么突然想换？你做了五年了。
Zěnme tūrán xiǎng huàn ? Nǐ zuò le wǔ nián le.
Why the sudden urge? You have been doing this five years.
Chen Hao
就是因为五年了。每天的事都一样。
Jiùshì yīnwèi wǔ nián le. Měi tiān de shì dōu yīyàng.
That is exactly why. Every day is the same as the last.
The colleague
你想去做什么？
Nǐ xiǎng qù zuò shénme ?
What would you want to do?

我想做培训。上个月我给新人讲了两次课。
Wǒ xiǎng zuò péi xùn. Shàng gè yuè wǒ gěi xīn rén jiǎng le liǎng cì kè.
Training. Last month I gave two sessions to the new starters.
The colleague
我听说了。他们说你讲得比外面请来的清楚。
Wǒ tīngshuō le. Tāmen shuō nǐ jiǎng de bǐ wàimian qǐng lái de qīngchu.
So I heard. They say you explain it more clearly than the people brought in from outside.
Chen Hao
那两天我不但不累，而且晚上还想接着准备。
Nà liǎng tiān wǒ bùdàn bù lèi, érqiě wǎnshang hái xiǎng jiēzhe zhǔnbèi.
Those two days I was not only not tired, in the evening I wanted to carry on preparing.
The colleague
这是个好信号。不过钱呢？
Zhè shì gè hǎo xìnhào. Bùguò qián ne ?
That is a good sign. But what about the money?
Chen Hao
头两年肯定比现在少。
Tóu liǎng nián kěndìng bǐ xiànzài shǎo.
The first two years will certainly be less than now.
The colleague
家里同意吗？
Jiālǐ tóngyì ma ?
Is your family in agreement?
Chen Hao
还没说。我想先把证考下来。
Hái méi shuō. Wǒ xiǎng xiān bǎ zhèng kǎo xiàlai.
I have not told them yet. I want to get the certificate first.
The colleague
对。一边上班一边准备，换的时候就不慌了。
Duì. Yībiān shàngbān yībiān zhǔnbèi, huàn de shíhou jiù bù huāng le.
Quite right. Prepare while you are still working, and there will be no panic when you switch.
Chen Hao
我打算十月考，明年再说换的事。
Wǒ dǎsuàn shí yuè kǎo, míngnián zài shuō huàn de shì.
I mean to sit it in October, and talk about switching next year.
一边上班一边准备: to work and prepare at the same time. Each half carries a verb, and the main action is the second. In quick speech you also hear 边…边…. Do not confuse it with 一面…一面…, which exists but belongs to writing.
把证考下来: to land the certificate. The complement 下来 says the thing has been secured and stays secured, as in 省下来 seen in lesson 10. It is used the same way in 拿下来 (to win a contract) and 定下来 (to settle a decision). The verb says by what means, the complement says it is in the bag.
就是因为五年了 hands the question back to the person who asked it: what she took for an argument against is exactly the reason. 就是 before 因为 marks that taking-up, and the turn of phrase is very lively in speech. It assumes you repeat the other person's words, which is what Chen Hao does here with 五年.
