    Banker Kong Xiangxi, better known in the West as Kung Hsiang-hsi, is born on 11 September 1881. American-educated and linked to Chiang Kai-shek through his wife Soong Ai-ling, he served as finance minister from 1933 to 1944, governor of the Central Bank of China and premier from 1938 to 1939.

    Death of Zhang Xun

    General Zhang Xun dies on 11 September 1923. Loyal to the Qing after the dynasty fell, he engineered the brief restoration of the deposed emperor Puyi in July 1917.

    Wanyan Yongji, seventh emperor of the Jurchen Jin dynasty, dies on 11 September 1213. Known by the title Weishaowang, he had ruled northern China since 1208.

    Taiwanese actor and singer Alec Su is born on 11 September 1973. A teen idol in the 1980s as a member of the boyband Little Tigers, he became a television star after the hit series My Fair Princess and later turned to directing.

    Politician Cai Chang dies in Beijing on 11 September 1990. A member of the Chinese Communist Party, born in Hunan in 1900, she was the first woman to sit on its Central Committee.

    Uyghur historian and poet Turghun Almas dies on 11 September 2001. Born in Kashgar and jailed twice in the 1940s, he published Uyghurlar in 1989, a book arguing for an independent Uyghur state, which was banned after publication.

    Diver Chen Yuxi is born on 11 September 2005. World champion on the 10 metre platform in 2019, 2022, 2023 and 2025, she took Olympic silver in 2021.
