Dai Zhen, also known as Dongyuan, Qing dynasty philosopher, is born in Xiuning. A major contributor to mathematics, geography and phonology and a critic of Zhu Xi's neo-Confucianism, he ranks among the foremost Confucian thinkers of his age. He died in Beijing in 1777.

Tang conquest of Kucha

The forces of Kucha, an oasis kingdom of the Tarim Basin aligned with the Western Turkic Khaganate, surrender in 649 to the Tang general Ashina She'er after a forty-day siege. The campaign, begun in 648, establishes Tang control over the northern Tarim Basin in present-day Xinjiang.
