Wang Mang founds the Xin dynasty

Wang Mang, a senior official of the Han dynasty, proclaims that the Mandate of Heaven has passed to him, takes the throne from the Liu family and founds the Xin dynasty. His reign, from the year 9 to 23, divides the Western Han from the Eastern Han, restored after his overthrow; some historians see him as a usurper, others as a visionary social reformer.
