  2. Birth of Koo Chen-fu

    Birth

    Taiwanese businessman and diplomat Koo Chen-fu is born. Head of the Koos Group from 1940 and chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation, he arranges the first direct talks between Taiwan and the People's Republic of China since 1949 and serves as Taiwan's negotiator at the Wang-Koo summits of 1993 and 1998; he dies in 2005.

    Journalist and politician Dai Jitao, also known as Tai Chi-tao, is born. An early Kuomintang member on the party's far right, he becomes the first head of the Examination Yuan of the Republic of China; he dies in 1949.

  10. Mass arrest of pro-democracy figures in Hong Kong

    Hong Kong's national security police arrest 53 activists, former lawmakers, social workers and academics over their role in primaries held ahead of the later postponed Legislative Council election. It is the largest crackdown under the national security law since it took effect on 30 June 2020; 47 of them are charged with conspiracy to commit subversion.

    Basalawarmi, Prince of Liang and a descendant of Khökhechi, fifth son of Kublai Khan, dies. A Yuan loyalist who fought the Ming, he leaves a family that the Hongwu Emperor exiles to Korea after the Ming conquest of Yunnan.
