Birth
Lao She, pen name of Shu Qingchun, is born in 1899. From a family of Manchu origin, he writes novels, plays and short stories in a language close to the speech of Beijing, whose hutongs provide the setting of his fiction. He dies during the Cultural Revolution, in August 1966.
